Dr. Galpin starts her job this week, and we\u2019re looking forward to the ideas she\u2019ll bring with her and the programming she\u2019ll develop for the museum. Expect to see some changes\u2014both big and subtle\u2014as she builds upon our record of presenting groundbreaking exhibitions of contemporary art and design in Miami.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Dr. Galpin holds a Ph.D. in art history from the University of Illinois-Chicago and for the last six years was the Chief Curator of the Patricia &amp; Phillip Frost Art Museum right here in Miami at FIU. She\u2019s also held curatorial posts at the Rollins Museum of Art and the San Diego Museum of Art. She specializes in modern and contemporary art of the Americas and has been especially active in studying intersections of the arts of Latin America and the United States. She curated the first museum solo exhibitions of artists such as Hugo Crosthwaite, Patrick Martinez, Peggy Levison Nolan, and Rafael Soldi. Other exhibitions she has organized include <em>In the Mind\u2019s Eye: Landscapes of Cuba<\/em> at the Frost in 2022; <em>Picturing Mexico: Alfredo Ramos Mart<\/em><em>\u00ednez in California<\/em> at the Pasadena Museum of California Art in 2014; and <em>Translating Revolution: U.S. Artists Interpret Mexican Muralists<\/em> at the National Museum of Mexican Art in Chicago in 2010.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Perhaps even more exciting, Dr. Galpin has long been a champion of the South Florida art scene, collaborating with Oolite Arts and the Miami-Dade Public Libraries, and advocating for local artists. She\u2019s also worked closely with students and faculty at FIU, and we hear she\u2019s looking forward to becoming a part of the vibrant MDC community!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Expect to see great things as we continue in our mission to be a catalyst for action and a place that empowers people to remake their city.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div>\n<h1><em>Nosotros tenemos una nueva directora!<\/em><\/h1>\n<p><em>Todos los que trabajamos en el Museo de Arte y Dise\u00f1o estamos encantados de unirnos al MDC para dar la bienvenida a la Dra. Amy Galpin, nueva Directora Ejecutiva del MOAD. La Dra. Galpin comienza su trabajo esta semana, y estamos ansiosos por ver las ideas que ella traer\u00e1 consigo y la programaci\u00f3n que desarrollar\u00e1 para el museo.
