Join MOAD for a hands-on artmaking workshop led by ceramic artist Polo Ram\u00edrez. Trained by his parents and grandparents in traditional pottery of the Vic\u00fas and the Tall\u00e1n, Ram\u00edrez\u2019s approach emphasizes the human touch. He abstains from using pottery wheels and other machinery. This workshop will engage participants in handbuilding techniques to create bird whistles inspired by the Chilalo, a bird from northern Per\u00fa that – legend has it – taught pottery-making to the region’s people.<\/p>\n
MOAD is teaming up with the Ceramic League of Miami (CLM) to bring this art experience to the South Florida community. With a special focus in ceramic arts, CLM prioritizes access and inclusion, creating environments that are tailored to various experience levels. This month, MOAD Makes will pay tribute to the ancient teachings of the Chilalo, a tradition that Ram\u00edrez has championed into present day art spaces.<\/p>\n
This program is inspired by Miami Dade College\u2019s Kislak Collection.<\/p>\n
