Part of MOAD’s groundbreaking

Museum Without Boundaries initiative, the exciting cross-disciplinary series of programs, A City of the People, galvanizes Miami audiences with thoughtful and challenging performances and exhibitions that draw from art, music, theater, politics, and poetry. Spread across the city at a wide array of venues, the series features performances, exhibitions, concerts, film and video screenings, readings, talks, and workshops that reflect ideas of what it means to exist in, and as, an urban community. At this moment of radical polarization, cities remain at the forefront of diversity, social progressivism, and environmental responsibility. Cities are the crucibles in which American ideals continue to be forged and realized. A haven for diverse immigrant communities, yet among the locations most vulnerable to the effects of climate change, Miami itself stands at the leading edge of the issues now facing us.

A City of the People engages notions of urban populations, civic life, public space, citizenship, political agency, and human relations with the natural world.

A City of the People is organized by MOAD and curated by Rina Carvajal, Executive Director and Chief Curator. It is made possible by the generous support of the Miami-Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs and the Cultural Affairs Council, the Miami-Dade County Mayor and Board of County Commissioners; and the State of Florida, Department of State, Division of Cultural Affairs and the Florida Council on Arts and Culture.
